A Little Java With Your Porn?

Green logo used from 1987-2010, still being us...

It would appear that our country’s citizens have lost their sense of decorum and manners in polite public company. Apparently in our current immoral culture of “anything goes,” people feel that they can now pop out their laptops or cell phones anywhere they please and begin to view porn, including at the familiar quick-stop coffee shop, Starbucks.

More and more we’re beginning to become acquainted with these rather bizarre scenarios that one would think would be taking place on the Jerry Springer show, instead of out in everyday public life.  Citizens buzz in and out to grab a cup of java before heading into the office, off to school, or perhaps for a quick happy hour energy blast after work.

Why does America now have to worry about and tolerate the porn viewer taking his or her porn addiction public? Should we have to actually fear the perverse and the obscene in our faces when we’re out and about in the public square?

I don’t think so.

There is a limit, America.  And I think we’ve reached it when one is actually engaging in an activity that breaks the law by risking exposing a minor to pornography within a public locale. The man in the news brief below definitely must be arrested and I’m so glad that he was, patron brawl or no brawl. He needs to be prosecuted and made an example of. This is ridiculous.

We’ve got to dig deep and begin to find some kind of morality in this secular nation that we’ve become and put it back into the country any way that we have to — even if it means we have to restrain freedom of speech to do it.

I don’t care to be exposed to a shot or two of porn while waiting to pick up a cup of coffee. I don’t want my child exposed to it if she happens to be with me. That we might happen to sit down at a table, glance around while we’re sipping our beverages, and get a flash of whatever pervo-boy has on his computer, strikes me as outrageous. I don’t like it. It puts me into grizzly-bear mama mode.  Look out, now.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the Soscol Avenue Starbucks Friday morning after what police described as a confrontation over pornography another patron said was visible on a laptop.

According to a shift activity log released by the City of Napa Police Department, which logged the incident at 8:20 a.m.:

NPD Officers responded to a report of a fight occurring at Starbucks (247 Soscol Ave).

Upon arrival it was alleged that Eric Martin Anderson (7/3/66) of Napa was looking at pornography on a laptop that was visible to other patrons.

One of the patrons confronted Anderson and a verbal argument ensued.

Anderson allegedly made threats to harm the other patron and challenged him to fight.

Evidence was located at the scene that supported the allegations.

Anderson was booked at the Napa County Department of Corrections on suspicion of disturbing the peace, criminal threats, violation of probation and violation of paragraph (a) of chapter 647 in the California Penal Code, which prohibits as disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, “lewd or dissolute conduct in any public place or in any place open to the public or exposed to public view,” according to the police report.

  1. Hackles up!

  2. Hey there, Remso (hugs) How are you? 😉

  3. ugh…that is awful! Glad they caught him. Surely shop owners will put a stop to this.

  4. Wow, that’s really disturbing. I guess the silver lining here is that people in the Starbucks took action. The day that people don’t take action – and let this sort of thing slide – that’s the day we’re in trouble!

  5. I sure hope so. I’m wondering, though, if the only reason that they called the police was because of the fight and the threats Anderson made at the location. Viewing the porn in public appears to be a little misdemeanor and no big deal. I wonder what would have happened had there simply been a complaint without the other drama of the fight.

  6. Sure enough.. of course when a brawl is about to ensue, most business owners/managers/staff will take action. I wonder what happens when these people just casually view their porn right out in public and no one says anything or complains. I think we have to nip this in the bud in advance. I wonder if this has happened elsewere. I’m going to check it out.

  7. Wow. That man is seriously lost, and has also lost his shame. I would have definitely gotten in his grill, and I think there are enough of us out there to where I’d have backup. Papa Grizzly!

    Also, a prayer :

Lord, help me to accept and receive my sexuality as a gift from you. Grant me the grace to resist the many lies which distort this divine gift and help me live my sexuality according to the truth.

Grant me purity of heart so that I might see the images of your glory in the beauty of others, and one day see you face to face.

    Amen

P.S. Thanks for commenting on my blog tonight.
