Bearing False Witness

You know, when you spread rumors and gossip that isn’t true, you’re a liar. This is called “bearing false witness against one’s neighbor. ” God doesn’t appreciate this much. His word tells us that this is a fact:

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” — Exodus 20:16

“Do not spread false reports. Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.” — Exodus 23:1

“Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is the man who gives false testimony against his neighbor.”– Proverbs 25:18

There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.
—Proverbs 6:16–19

Unfortunately, sometimes even Christians will do absolutely anything to help the political candidates of their choice achieve a goal of being elected. They will even spin lies, or twist and stretch the truth; they will share those same lies through forwarded emails, videos, pictures, rumors, and gossip, with others.

Here are numerous falsehoods that are blatant lies:

  1. Obama is a Muslim
  2. Obama’s ring says “There is no god but Allah..”
  3. Obama is not a citizen of America.
  4. Obama will not recite the pledge of allegiance
  5. Obama and Michelle are getting a divorce
  6. Obama is the antichrist
  7. etc., etc., etc…..

You can view the truth instead of all of the many, many lies HERE.

It is best if a Christian is not certain that something is truth, that he or she not spread and perpetrate a lie, mis-truth, or random rumor.

God is aware of our sins and He is especially aware of the intent of our heart. We are accountable when we try to harm someone else through absolute lies and skewed half-truths, including the President of the United States of America.

Are you guilty of lying, spreading false rumors, or skewed truth? Go before our Father who art in Heaven and ask for forgiveness, and then go and sin no more.

  1. I am not an American, so I’m reluctant to speak about the political situation there, even though what happens in America DOES influence most of the world.

I agree that many lies are circulated about politicians, especially at election time. It happens here, too. In fact, I think politics here have hit an all time low with all the mud throwing.

The only comment I could make on the American election is that I could never vote for any person/party that supports the murder of unborn children. That would override any other consideration.

    Hello Meeting,

Not sure how I missed you, hon. At any rate, here goes:

I am not an American, so I’m reluctant to speak about the political situation there, even though what happens in America DOES influence most of the world.

I agree that many lies are circulated about politicians, especially at election time. It happens here, too. In fact, I think politics here have hit an all time low with all the mud throwing.

I don’t support the murder of unborn children either; but the way that I’m able to vote for the president is because the right supports the murder of probably just as many human beings through unnecessary war and capital punishment so they are hardly the party of pro-life. It’s blatant hypocrisy for them to claim that they are. They attempt to justify their killing, but it all revolves around killing because of money due to their greed. They have just as much blood on their hands as do the left. Unfortunately, many of them are absolutely blind to this fact.

I am firmly against abortion but I do understand that women are going to get one if they sincerely want one; I don’t want women forced to undergo surgery that will kill them and their unborn child. I want to engage in a process to reduce abortion through bipartisan fashion. I think we could solve so many of our nation’s ills if we would only stop playing politics and get the job done through true bipartisanship. Instead, there are childish games being played, whereby the right screams at the left and then sulks and won’t cooperate, and then the left gets mad and takes their toys and goes home and won’t work with the right, and it’s like a cat chasing its tail.

Meeting, be glad you’re not American, because right now we are so screwed up in this country that I don’t know if we’ll ever untangle the mess. 😉

God bless you and thank you for sharing here. Adrienne
