The Negativity of the Fox News Channel

I watch many different news sources but rarely put my faith into just one. If  I had to choose a news source that was less partisan than the others, I would choose CSPAN. Of all the various networks though, Fox News Network has to be the most biased, outlandish, false, and blatantly negative choice of all the options I have surfed over the years.

I have actually noticed serious change take place in Christian bloggers and even personal friends & family who are regularly exposing themselves to this news source. These folk’s personalities have actually undergone a metamorphism and the change isn’t a pleasant one.

When I think about the fruits of the spirit and how these fruits are evidence of the Holy Spirit working within our lives, I don’t see these fruits overtly active in the lives of those who subscribe to Fox News; I see the opposite of the fruits of the spirit coming forth from their keyboards and virtual mouths.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” –Galatians 5:22-23

Here are some examples of what comes out of the television when one turns to Fox Cable News. The babbling pundits consistently refer to our president disrespectfully — calling him “the anointed one.”  They stretch and twist the truth and bear false witness against the president. They put a negative spin on anything having to do with him. They make mountains out of mole hills in the attempt at slurring the Democratic party, the president, and those who associate with or voted for him.

The alleged “news” emanating from this channel is spun through a negative smokescreen of bitterness, angst, rage, sour grapes, and anger.  Pretty much the gist of everything reported on it is negatively spun and turned into something it isn’t. It’s as if every iota of political and world news is filtered through something that vomits it back out into such an ugly format that it’s just unbelievable what ends up being taken in and pondered on.

The most recent Benghazi debacle was hyped up for days and turned into off the wall conspiracy theory in the see through attempt at smearing the president, the UN Ambassador, and the Obama administration all with the aim of making political gain in the election.

If one is aware of what’s going on with this news source, one doesn’t fall for this, but if one is gullible or inclined to be deceived by negative influence, I shudder to think what is happening to the minds of those who listen to this garbage day in, day out. I’ve already seen the impact upon some Christian brothers and sisters and it isn’t pretty.

Sincerely, I do pray that God will speak to the hearts of those who are digesting this negativity and ugliness and turn them away from it. Perhaps God will help these Christians to recoil from this as if from a hot flame. This isn’t godly and it isn’t bringing forth the fruit of the Holy Spirit in anyone’s life.

I really believe what’s coming out of this channel is propagandizing lies and evil designed to trouble the listener and destroy the beautiful presence of the Holy Spirit within the Christian life. I’ve been honestly sickened by what I’ve been hearing on that station to the point that I thought I should issue a clear warning to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Christians need to beware this news source.

Fox News Channel is akin to another individual’s unfortunate “running off at the mouth” by the name of Rush Limbaugh. This gentleman, (not), spouts lies that encourage fear, worry, rage, and every negative feeling generated under the sun. We can usually tell what is good for us by what it generates within us.  In the Bible, we are admonished as Christians:

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. — Philippians 4:8

I assure you, brethren, Fox News does not align with what we’re to be thinking about and meditating upon as Christians. Time might be better spent in prayer instead of filling our minds with such consistent negativity and hatred hour after hour. Consider changing that cable channel and opting for one less bitter and negative.  Choose something like CSPAN that offers politics from an unemotional, more objective point of view.  Please.

    Me too!!! I joke that I can tell you if someone listens to Glenn Beck especially very quickly, but seriously it quite scary. Even my very intelligent uncle listens to Glenn Beck and is carried away with things that are absolutely ridiculous.

    My husband and I don’t watch the news anymore as we don’t have tv. We read it and go to my in-laws house when necessary. When we watched the election results we were flipping between CNN and FOX and it wasn’t 5 seconds that went by on FOX before something was said that was offensive and misleading.

    No matter how much I try to convince them, they just don’t want to believe it. It’s very sad. On a side note have you seen OutFoxxed? It’s a documentary on FOX’s bias from the top down.

  5. I always loved that verse. We need to focus on the good, not just all the “evil” in the world, and I use quotes because that word is frequently taken out of context.

  6. They’re conspiracy theorists. Calling them pundits is giving them far more credit than they even deserve. Although, we live in a “shock and awe” type of society now, where the wild, outlandish, and crazy are what’s most newsworthy or cranks out the best ratings; which ultimately is more important than putting fourth real, viable, news obviously.

    It just happens to be that right now, the balance of positive and negative is tipped in the wrong direction here in this lovely little society we as people have created.
