It’s so easy to feel deep wrath and rage for the latest beheading that ISIS is responsible for; it’s all over the news! Our president stands with our allies, and is loyal to Japan in their moment of grieving, but I can see a coldness in his eyes; there is a raw determination within him to end ISIS.
Like him, I can feel myself wanting to respond with something that is equivalent to what these monsters have shown the innocents within their clutches, but silently the Lord God speaks to my heart…..
The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth.
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you.
Do not say, “I’ll do to them as they have done to me; I’ll pay them back for what they did.”
Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath. Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down. Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody. Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone. If you’ve got it in you, get along with everybody. Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do. “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.” Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness. Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good. –Romans 12:16-20 The Message (MSG)
Jesus teaches me a new way to respond. I am challenged by Him not to be like the world, not to partake of the violence of the world even in the fantasies of my mind. As a Christian I don’t have that luxury. God tells me firmly…..
